The City of Mobridge requires that all
bicycles owned and operated on public ways within its
jurisdiction be licensed and registered with the City. The
bicycle license may be purchased at Mobridge City Hall at 114
1st Avenue East during normal business hours for the fee of
$1.00 per year. A license is valid from the date of purchase
through December 31 of each year. The license is
non-transferable and must be attached to the bicycle for which
it is registered.
Licensing your bicycle saves both you and
the police department time and money. Licensed bicycles, and
their owners, can be immediately identified if that bicycle is
recovered by officers.
Unlicensed bicycles that are recovered
cause officers to spend extra time attempting to identify and
locate an owner. If an owner can not be identified or located,
the bicycle is placed in a bicycle storage facility and
officers must wait for an owner to contact the police
department to report the bicycle missing or stolen. If they do
not, the bicycle is eventually considered abandoned property.
The bicycle is then made surplus police property and is sold
at an auction. The Mobridge Police Department recovers, on
average, more than 50 unclaimed and unregistered bicycles per
year.
If law enforcement is able to identify the
owner of an unlicensed recovered bicycle, the owner is
required to purchase a license for the bicycle before it will
be released back to the owner.
Please allow us to assist you more
efficiently if your bicycle is ever lost or stolen by
licensing your bicycle. If you would like more information
about licensing your bicycle, please contact Mobridge City
Hall during normal business hours at (605) 845-3521. |
