As of 2008, the Mobridge Police Department
entered into a cooperative partnership and became a recognized supporter of
the SD CHIP program. The South Dakota Child Identification
Program is free to parents and is presented by the Grand Lodge
of South Dakota, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons. This
comprehensive child ID program is recognized by the National
Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) as one of
the most complete child recovery and identification programs
in the nation.
The SD CHIP kits include: Toothprints®
Dental Impressions, DNA Cheek Swab, Digital Still Photo,
Digital Fingerprints, and Short Video Imaged Interview. All
information in the kit is kept by the parent to be used in the
event of a missing child. The kit information can be used by
media and law enforcement to assist in locating and
identifying a child.
The first SD CHIP program was held on Saturday, March 1,
2008 from
10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with 59 children participating in the
program. The second SD CHIP program was held on Saturday,
November 22, 2008 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with 33 children
participating in the program. The 2010 SD CHIP program was
held on Tuesday, May 4 and Wednesday, May 5 from 2:00 PM to
6:00 PM, with 46 children participating on the 4th and 67
children participating on the 5th, for a total of 113
participants. The 2012 SD CHIP program was held on October 16,
2012 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM with 64 children participating in
the program. We are hoping to see that number
drastically increase as word of this excellent program
reaches more and more people in the area.
